For gearheads and everyday drivers alike, warehouse club memberships have long offered hidden financial perks, from discounted gasoline and tires to savings on electric vehicle chargers and dashboard cameras. Now, retail giant Costco is expanding its automotive program even further, launching a new partnership that gives members direct cash incentives on four popular Volkswagen SUV models.

The promotional program, which officially kicked off in September and runs through January 4, 2027, covers new model-year vehicles across Volkswagen’s lineup. Specifically, the initiative includes the 2026 Volkswagen Atlas, the Atlas Cross Sport, the Taos, and the Tiguan. Under the terms of the program, eligible Costco Gold Star and Business members can receive a $1,000 cash incentive toward the purchase or lease of an eligible vehicle. Meanwhile, higher-tier Executive members see that benefit bumped to $1,250.

These savings are designed to be flexible for consumers. The incentives apply regardless of whether a customer chooses to finance, purchase with cash, or lease their vehicle. Additionally, buyers can combine these Costco-exclusive savings with other potential manufacturer incentives and promotional offers currently being provided by Volkswagen dealers, making it a compelling time for shoppers in the market for a family hauler.

According to representatives from Costco, the decision to launch this new round of automotive savings was directly inspired by the overwhelming consumer success of previous partnership campaigns with Volkswagen. During an earlier promotional push, Volkswagen vehicles emerged as the second most-requested brand by Costco members, with the Tiguan and Atlas models leading the charge in popularity.

This partnership arrives at an opportune moment for the German automotive giant. The Volkswagen Group has faced a challenging period recently, marked by financial results for 2025 that saw operating profits plummet by roughly 50 percent. In response to these financial headwinds, the automaker announced an ambitious $18.6-billion restructuring effort aimed at cutting operational costs and streamlining its business model. A critical component of turning the tide for the brand will involve driving volume and strengthening its appeal among everyday American consumers—and partnering with a massive U.S. warehouse club boasting millions of loyal members offers a direct pipeline to motivated buyers.

Does the discount apply to the next-generation Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport?

While the prospect of saving up to $1,250 on a new Volkswagen SUV is sure to draw crowds to dealership showrooms, savvy shoppers will want to pay close attention to the specific model years covered under the program, particularly when it comes to Volkswagen’s larger three-row offerings.

There is a notable catch for shoppers eyeing the brand-new updates to the Volkswagen Atlas lineup. Volkswagen has already prepared an all-new edition of its flagship three-row midsize SUV, which is slated to debut soon. However, this next-generation version is not currently included in the Costco discount program. Instead, the current Costco incentives apply specifically to the 2026 model-year vehicles.

The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas certainly holds its own in terms of features, offering a generous array of standard amenities, including heated front seats and a heated steering wheel right out of the box. However, buyers should recognize that this version sits one generation behind the upcoming redesigned model, which automotive critics have praised as a highly anticipated, feature-heavy family hauler equipped with a sporty GTI-derived engine.

A Costco Membership Gets You Discounts On Volkswagen SUVS

Even so, the pricing math heavily favors the 2026 model for budget-conscious buyers. The 2026 Atlas carries a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $39,310. Factoring in the Costco member discount, that price drops to either $38,310 or $38,060 depending on the buyer’s membership tier, before factoring in the standard $1,475 destination fee. By comparison, the upcoming redesigned version is expected to carry a higher MSRP of approximately $41,610 alongside a $1,525 destination charge. Choosing the 2026 model with the Costco incentive undercuts the expected price of the next-generation vehicle by more than $3,000, presenting a substantial immediate savings for families who prioritize value over having the absolute newest sheet metal.

A remarkably similar dynamic applies to the Atlas Cross Sport. Serving as the slightly smaller, sleeker, and more style-focused sibling to the standard Atlas, the two-row Cross Sport also benefits from aesthetic and engineering improvements for its upcoming generation. Yet, much like its three-row counterpart, Costco’s current discount is tied exclusively to the outgoing model year rather than the most up-to-date redesign. While pricing details for the newest version of the Cross Sport remain somewhat fluid, the 2026 model opens at $38,300, subject to the same destination charges and membership incentives as the larger Atlas.

For buyers considering Volkswagen’s smaller offerings, the decision-making process is considerably more straightforward. The compact Tiguan and the subcompact Taos have not undergone major generational redesigns for the upcoming model year, meaning shoppers do not have to worry about missing out on a brand-new body style or dramatic platform shift. In fact, the latest iteration of the Taos has already arrived at dealership lots maintaining the exact same $26,500 starting MSRP as the previous year’s edition, allowing Costco members to stack their savings on top of stable pricing.

What other automakers are offering special discounts this fall?

Volkswagen is not the only manufacturer participating in Costco’s aggressive automotive savings push. At the time of this writing, several other prominent automotive brands are offering elevated discounts to warehouse club members, spanning everything from luxury electric vehicles to rugged, purpose-built adventure vehicles.

Luxury automaker Volvo is currently upping the discount ante on a trio of its all-electric models through a promotional window running until November 2. The flagship EX90 three-row electric SUV—a luxury vehicle celebrated for its remarkably quiet cabin and serene ride quality—receives the most substantial price cut in the Volvo lineup. Executive-tier Costco members can subtract a generous $2,000 from the EX90’s starting MSRP of $78,090, a figure that includes a $1,395 destination charge. Standard Gold Star and Business members are eligible for a respectable $1,500 incentive on the same vehicle.

As expected, Volvo’s smaller all-electric utility vehicles feature scaled incentives that mirror the warehouse club’s standard tier structure. Both the EX40 and the smaller EX30, which start at $56,545 and $40,345 respectively, match the Volkswagen discount framework by offering $1,250 to Executive members and $1,000 to Gold Star and Business members. Interestingly, the only all-electric SUV in Volvo’s current stable that is excluded from this limited-time promotion is the newly introduced EX60, a luxury crossover that analysts predict will carve out a strong niche in the electric vehicle market despite missing out on immediate club pricing. Beyond brand-new electric models, Costco’s automotive program also caters to the pre-owned market, offering special member incentives on a wide variety of Certified-by-Volvo models spanning the 2023 through 2025 model years.

For buyers looking to venture far outside the automotive mainstream, Costco recently rolled out a collaboration with rugged utility brand Ineos. Rather than focusing on urban crossovers or family-oriented haulers, this partnership goes all-in on rugged off-road capability, extending special savings across the entire 2026 and 2027 lineups for both the Ineos Grenadier Station Wagon and its sibling, the Grenadier Quartermaster pickup truck.

Much like the Volkswagen and Volvo initiatives, these Ineos incentives apply equally to customers choosing to purchase or lease their vehicles. However, the program carries a slight restriction regarding membership tiers, limiting eligibility exclusively to Executive members. Those who qualify receive a robust $2,000 member incentive accompanied by an additional $1,000 accessories credit to help outfit their new rugged machines. This specialized Ineos promotion runs concurrently with the Volkswagen campaign, keeping both savings opportunities open for members through January 4, 2027.
